We are a modern urban fantasy roleplay about Magick in it's many forms. Based off The Secret Circle Novels by L.J. Smith, we have influences from the Dresden Files, Constantine, AHS: Coven and The Witching Hour by Anne Rice. Everything you need to know is here, we do not require previous knowledge about witchcraft.
We place an emphasis on original characters but allow characters derived from the Secret Circle TV series or novels. Everything from the thirteen witch families, occult societites and mythical creatures have a rich history of their magick, cultural origin, rivalries and lore - shaping and diversifying the story outside of the main plotline.
Magick is seeping back into the fabric of our reality, although it has been used in secret for centuries.
Witches, individuals who have been blessed by the watchtowers of Air, Earth, Fire, Water and Spirit have used it as a means for survival, until the stigma of the Witch Trials forced them to go into hiding.
There are others who use magick as well, protected from public view by the Never-Never. Now, a mysterious guiding force by the name of John Blake has arranged events to unify these magickal users together. They come from all walks of life, but each will all play a role in the trails to come.

ACTIVITY: This game revolves around a structured storyline and a character suddenly missing can complicate things for everyone. If you ARE going to be away for a long time, just let the staff know so we can work your character out. We prefer - and as a community, encourage - that threads are seen to completion.
Players who are missing for longer than three months lose their face claims. Players are allowed to leave and come back with their characters twice before the character becomes retired from our game.
MATURE RATING: Our game is rated
in accordance with the Proboards TOS.
We encourage creative freedom but recognize that there is a standard to quality regarding mature themes and progressive plot. Not everyone is comfortable reading certain material, so we implement the use of ratings in titles to act as warnings. T: Stands for Trigger, Please note the possible Trigger Content.
V: Stands for extremeViolence or gore.
L: Stands for excessive Language.

VIGNETTES: Each scene is considered an episode, having its story that takes place in our universe and is a part of the premise of the game as a whole. This style of storytelling is designed to allow players to have various levels of activity. We have everything from rapid-fire posting to scenes that take several weeks to meet completion.

CODE OF CONDUCT
BE RESPECTFUL: We are all here to have fun, so please be respectful to everyone on this site. Play fairly, keeping your characters separate and allowing your partner the freedom to reply.
IN-CHARACTER CONSEQUENCES: In this type of role playing game, we favor in-character consequences. For example, even if you do not want your character to be cursed, other characters can curse your character should they have the means to do so. Real life isn't fair, and sometimes bad things happen.
BOOK OF SHADOWS: Each character in Black Sun Rising will receive a Book of Shadows that has spells, rituals, charms, and lore. These books help give background information about the world as a whole.
New spells, rituals or charms can not be purchased mid-scene and then immediately used. You can find all additional information about Magick here: HOW MAGICK WORKS
EXPERIENCE POINTS: The more you give to the game, the more you earn in experience points. At character creation, every character is given a base set of lore, spells, charms, etc. depending on their origin. Players can use these points to purchase new material for their characters. EXPERIENCE STORE.
NOTE YOUR SPELLS: When you cast a spell, you need to post it in the Spells, Rituals and Charms folder. This rule is designed to give us a simple checks and balances system to prevent people from going "Oh, my character would have cast." thus affecting the current scene.
There are no do-overs in life, or in a game. The Doctor and his Tardis is not here, so there is no going back in time to do that spell, ritual, or charm, etc. will save you from the bad guy about to curse you. This ruling includes scenes done over AIM, Skype or another medium. It must be posted in its proper folder before it becomes legal.
WORD COUNT: We expect a paragraph minimum. If you can do more than that, awesome! Remember to flex those creative writing muscles! Most people on our site would rather read (and subsequently respond to) one paragraph of excellent writing than four paragraphs of nonsense or a one sentence reply.
SIGNATURES/AVATARS: You don't have to have one, but if you do try to keep it no wider than 500 pixels, or you may stretch the board. Please refrain from graphic nudity in the signatures. If you want one and don't have the means to make one, then you can purchase it from the Experience Board.
POSTING TEMPLATES: We have Style Tag enabled on our site. We do not have a required template, but if you use one of your own, please make sure it is no wider than 600 pixels and doesn't stretch the board. And please make sure your font sizes and colors are readable.
